(Grades 9-10)

Girl Scouts in this age group will always remember the cool stuff they learned and the great friends they made, as well as discover what's so important about being a leader, working on a team, and dreaming about their future possibilities.

  • These girls in grades 9-10 work to understand themselves and their values and use their knowledge and skills to explore the world. Together, they work on caring about, inspiring, and teaming with others locally and globally, and acting to make the world a better place.
Girl Scout Seniors earn Interest Project Awards, participation patches and do good work in the world around them using the It's Your World -- Change It! and the new It's Your Planet -- Love It! Girl Scout Leadership Journeys

What It Means to be a Girl Scout

Being a Girl Scout is about having fun and making friends — but it's more than that. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Learn more about what it means to be a Girl Scout.

Journeys provide an important foundation for each level in Girl Scouting for girls and volunteers. Just by following a journey, members will be engaging in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (and practicing some Girl Scout traditions!). When the Journey ends, girls and their volunteers can apply what they have learned to everything else they do in Girl Scouting.

It's Your World -- Change It!

Imagine a GIRLtopia, then take action to make your vision come true. One book. One award. One vision. One reality. It's yours!

GIRLtopia

This journey invites Girl Scout Seniors to envision an ideal world -- for girls. Girls get the facts on why the world needs a GIRLtopia and then they begin to imagine a society that consistently respects their needs, values and interests. Through team discussions and reflective experiences, girls act as visionaries who can foresee an ideal world.

Key Activities

  • Create It: Girls create a work of art to represent their ideal vision
  • Guide It: Girls lead one another or others in GIRLtopia projects
  • Change It: Girls engage in a Take Action Project to move the real world one step closer to GIRLtopia.

On this journey, Seniors can earn the Girl Scout Senior Visionary Award. This award recognizes girls who use a deep knowledge of their values to envision an ideal world for girls and also connect with one another and their communities to move the world closer to their vision. The girls can also wear a keepsake GIRLtopia necklace.

It's Your Planet -- Love It!

While Loving the Planet, Get Outside! Girls and their volunteers get lots of ideas for hiking, camping, testing the air, and watching the stars.

Sow What?

Girls investigate the food network. (No, not that channel on cable – the real system of farmers and workers that gets each piece of food to the table.) As they wonder the ‘dirt’ on how land is used around the world (hint: corn’s a big issue!), girls think about who and what kind of change they can cultivate while en route to earning the Harvest Award. Their keepsake wire coil bracelet has 3 rows of coconut shell beads and dangle charms.
