Guide for Recognition of Adult Volunteers
Requests should be submitted on the appropriate forms. It is recommended that an individual not be submitted for an award the year after that person has received an award. Each award is given one time. Awards do not have to be given in a particular order. Forms are due to the Service Center Awards & Recognitions Committee generally by March 1. Note that National Awards Forms for Metro must reach the Metro Service Center no later than February 1.
OUTSTANDING LEADER** – This award recognizes troop leaders, assistant troop leaders, co-leaders, and leaders of other groups of girls. Work which is outstanding and exceeds the expectations of the job is recognized. Two letters of endorsement from girls or families must be attached to the application. OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER** – This award recognizes service other than leader of girls or in addition to leader of girls. The service benefits the service unit, area association, or council in a way that is beyond the expectations for the position. (Microsoft Word version also available.)

**The deadline for Outstanding Leader and Outstanding Volunteer is March 1.
Awards for Service within an Area/Service Unit
To nominate someone for any of these awards, please use Resource Sheet # 501, Request for Adult Award & Recognition (Microsoft Word version also available).
DAISY – Should be given for continuous contributions.
Three years troop leadership or two years with service unit or area.
APPRECIATION PIN* – National Award – The service performed by the candidate is outstanding, above and beyond the expectations for the position held, and is delivered to at least one area or service unit within the council jurisdiction. |

PILLAR OF SUPPORT – Recognizes continued, dependable service given by a Daisy recipient with two or more additional years of service.
HONOR PIN* – National Award – The service performed by the candidate is outstanding, above and beyond the expectations of the position held, and is delivered to two or more areas or service units within the council jurisdiction. |
Awards for Service beyond an Area and Service Unit

* Council board of directors approval required. Submit by March 1 of current year (February 1 if the nominee is in the Metro Service Center). For national awards, a minimum of two (2) letters of endorsement must be attached to the application.
Other Awards
Episodic Volunteer Award – This award has three parts: Community Participation for a one-time or one-day service: Citizenship for a second or third round of service; and Social Responsibility for a fourth round of service. Use Form #516. (Microsoft Word version also available.)

Progressive Volunteer Award – is presented for successful service on a board or council committee, a task group assignment, service unit team, area team position, or eligible key recipients. Includes the Volunteer Development Pin and Progressive Keys. Recognition: Certificate to purchase the Girl Scout Volunteer Development Pin. Five keys hang from this pin for additonal areas of service. See page 17 for details about the five keys. Use Form #517 which applicants fill out for themselves.
