Helping Your Girl Scout's Troop
Whether you’re a mother, father, foster parent, guardian, or grandparent—you have a big impact on the children you love. It’s an awesome responsibility, but you’re not alone. Girl Scouting is here to help you inspire and support the girls in your life.
For 88 years, busy people like your daughter’s and/or granddaughter’s leaders have made the time to help girls grow strong. Volunteer Leaders and co-Leaders take extensive Girl Scout training to fill their positions. They, too, juggle work and family life of their own. They can ALWAYS use your help! Don’t let the troop fall apart because of leader burnout. Lend a hand!
Running a successful troop requires a lot of attention to details. Here are some small ways to help your daughter’s leader:
- Be considerate and on time
- Return all forms and money on time (save hours of phone calling)
- Drop off or pick up your daughter right on time (save hours of waiting)
- Return phone calls promptly
- Come to troop meetings and join in the fun
If you are looking for an even more involved role, please visit our page on how to volunteer. There are many ways to volunteer in Girl Scouting besides being a troop leader.
Recent studies show that Girls Scouts whose parents are involved in their daughter’s troop activities have more self-esteem, self-reliance, leadership abilities, and teamwork skills. Even more important, Girl Scouts have developed more meaningful relationships with parents who are involved.
You’ve always known your daughter’s future success depends on you. Several studies have shown that young people whose parents are involved in their activities are less likely to become involved in high-risk activities and more likely to pursue success in education. With more volunteer involvement also comes a greater variety of activities Girl Scouts can offer your daughter.
Go ahead! Make a difference by sharing your life experiences, special skills, and hugs with them. Your reward is the friendship, memories, and trust you receive, not to mention knowing that you are contributing to your community in a very important way. We know you won’t regret becoming more involved with your Girl Scout and her troop.
