What Is the Adventure Program?
The Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana Adventure program is a progression of activities that are fun, active, engaging, and challenging. From simple games to the challenging high rope courses, the Adventure Program will enrich the Girl Scouting experience of everyone who takes part.
Is the Adventure Program Safe?
Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana has gone through great lengths to ensure all facilitators have taken required training to fulfill the requirements to become the teams course facilitator or high ropes programmer. Annual updates to keep skills and programming current are required of all facilitators and programmers. Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana follows the national standards of Project Adventure and (ACCT) Association of Challenge Course Technology.
Who is the Adventure Program for?
The Adventure Program is for Girl Scouts, youth groups, schools, adults, businesses, and corporate groups wishing to work towards achieving the following learning goals:
- To increase an individual's sense of confidence and self-esteem.
- To increase mutual support and cohesion within a group.
- To develop abilities that contribute to group-decision making and leadership.
- To foster appreciation and respect for differences existing within the group.
High Ropes
The High Ropes Course is a teams course moved off the ground and up high into the trees. A first response upon seeing the ropes is often with awe and "No way! No way you're getting me to do that!" The excitement and fear factor are high at the ropes course and so are the personal rewards. Emphasis is placed on the following:
Building self-esteem through both physical and mental risk-taking activities.
- Increase of mutual support within a group.
- Appreciation of problem solving and understanding of consequences.
- Recognition of one's own strengths and limitations, and gaining a better understanding of one's peers.
Teams Course
Teams courses are a series of physical obstacles which a group is challenged to go over, under, or around. There are ropes to swing on, beams to balance on, and things to squeeze through. The Teams Course provides groups with tools to create very challenging and exciting initiative problems.
- To build communication and cooperation in a non-judgmental setting.
- To teach respect, trust, and diversity within a group.
- To develop leadership skills.
- To stimulate a creative, fun, and active environment.
- To teach the skills of shared responsibilities and respect for differences.
