Financial Assistance
Financial Assistance is Available for Girl Scouts in Kentuckiana!
Sometimes Girl Scouts need a little extra assistance in paying fees for Girl Scout events or membership in Girl Scouting, and Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana can help.
"Scouterships" are available in several ways for girls and adults who have a financial need. They are not handouts; they are simply a helping hand that can make experiences possible for people who would not otherwise be able to participate fully in the Girl Scout program. Scouterships are based on financial need only. They are not rewards for being a good Girl Scout, and they are not recognitions for being a Girl Scout a long time.
There are several different Scouterships available for:
In All Cases:
- Watch for application deadlines.
- Watch for eligibility requirements.
- Plan to pay a portion of the fee for events and workshops.
- Applicants must be registered Girl Scouts in the Kentuckiana council.
Membership Scouterships
Scouterships can help girls and adults who would not be able to join Girl Scouts without some (or all) of their membership fee being paid for them.
Generally, people feel a greater sense of belonging if they contribute at least a small part of the fee; but there are times when a family’s resources are so stretched they cannot pay any part of the fee. If someone does need full or partial assistance, Scouterships are there for them.
Leaders only need to complete the request form that is provided with their troop registration materials. We'll handle the "money" paperwork for you at the Girl Scout office.

Events and Adult Education Workshops Sponsored by the Service Center
Service centers sponsor some events for girls each year. These are generally announced in your service center program calendar or newsletter. Families who would like their Girl Scout daughter to participate, but need some financial assistance to do so, can fill out a short request form and send it in to your Girl Scout office. They can request assistance for as many events as they need to during the year. The process is the same for Girl Scout adults who need some financial assistance in order to participate in events or adult education workshops that have a fee.
"Service Center Scoutership Request" forms can be provided by your service center. Service centers can award Scouterships up to $50.00 for each event. In all cases, the family should pay at least some part of the fee, even if it’s a really small part.

Events that are "Council-Wide"
Sometimes events are open to girls and adults all over our council. (Did you know we have five Girl Scout offices in our council?) Day camps, resident camps, and national and international destinations for older girls fall into this category.
Different events require different financial request forms. For day camp, ask for a Service Center Scoutership Request form. A form for requesting a resident camp Scoutership will be included in the camp brochure. Girls accepted for national or international destinations will receive a Scoutership request form in the information they receive from the Older Girl Specialist at the council office. Be sure and look for guidelines for applying and application deadlines for each event.
Occasionally, adult education events are offered that are extensive and have a fee larger than $50.00. Adults who want to participate, but who can only do so with some financial help, will find information and an application form in Resource Sheet #505 (Microsoft Word version also available).
