Fundraisers

There are many ways to support Girl Scouting financially:

Capital Campaign

Generous donations to our capital campaign allowed us to build a new girl-friendly facility at 2115 Lexington Road in Louisville, Kentucky, which serves as the council headquarters and is a visible reminder of our mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

The center was built to help fulfill the need for more program, training, and staff space due to a steady membership increase. The new facility houses a girl program center with a troop house available for overnight accommodations, a girl and adult learning center, a room that is a meeting space just for girls, and a double climbing wall and bouldering wall.

We are grateful for the financial support we have received for our first ever capital campaign. Although we have secured $1,713,000 to build the new facility, there are still many naming opportunities throughout the building. Please contact Stacy Funk, director of development and marketing, at 502-636-0900 ext. 240 for more information.

The building has helped our council stay current with the contemporary needs of girls. More and more girls are building courage and overcoming fears on the rock climbing wall, learning through activities in the arts and crafts room, and building self-esteem through special programs held in the Girls’ Café. Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana has built a home that will leave a lasting legacy for girls and adults in our communities. We believe this legacy is a key ingredient to our future success. If you haven’t been by to see us yet, please call; we’ll be happy to give you a tour. Our home is your home.

Investing in Futures Breakfast - November 13, 2007

Thanks to all who joined us at The Olmsted in Louisville in 2007, and thank you to our wonderful sponsors! This year's fundraising breakfast was one of our best ever. We hope that everyone was inspired to help girls in their communities through the work of the Girl Scout organization.

Benefiting Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, this breakfast always promises to be inspirational, educational, and definitely a lot of fun! We guarantee that when people discover what Girl Scouts is doing for girls, they will be WOWed. To those to attended, thank you for making it possible for Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana to expand our work in the community and for investing in futures! Thank you to those who volunteered to make this event a wonderful experience. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a table captain or volunteeering in other ways for 2008, please contact Suzy Gessner at 502-636-0900 ext. 233, 888-771-5170, or sgessner@kyanags.org.

The Investing in Futures Society was created in 2003 with nine founding members who joined with a five-year commitment at the $1,000 level. This society is the first multiple-year pledge society that the council has initiated and is aimed at funding day-to-day operations. Our council hopes to expand the Society with the help of concerned people in the community who believe in the importance of Girl Scouting. With support from this society, our goal is to make Girl Scouts available to every girl, everywhere.

Champions 4 HerChampions 4 Her Run, Walk, & Festival - June 21, 2008

Champions 4 Her Walk, Run & Festival is a new, local event that will bring together ten area non-profit organizations to raise funds and awareness for the issues facing today's local women. Louisville ranks near the bottom on all critical measures affecting women and families, and Champions 4 Her Walk, Run & Festival is a homegrown effort to change that in a positive way. Participating teams and individuals will be able to run or walk a 5K, enjoy a festival on the Waterfront, and decide exactly how their fundraising efforts are distributed among the organizations. Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is one of these benefiting organizations. For more information or to register for this event, please visit www.champions4her.com/festival.htm.

Change a Girl's Life Campaign

Your small change will make a BIG difference in the lives of girls in your community! The Change a Girl’s Life Campaign was developed to reach out to all the families of all the girls that our council serves and ask them to make a donation to support Girl Scouting in Kentuckiana.

The campaign will take place between January 1 and April 15.  Troops will be responsible for handing in their money by April 15 to their service unit Family & Community Partnership chair.  If turned in by the deadline, all troops averaging $10 per girl will receive a patch.

Why do we need to ask our families to contribute to Girl Scouting? We are asking parents to make an investment in Girl Scouting because their daughters directly benefit. The actual cost of Girl Scouting is not being passed on to the families.  The true cost is more than $250 per girl annually. Donations keep Girl Scouting affordable.

Some easy ways to save change and make a difference

  • Mom can donate the loose change in her purse when she comes home from work.
  • Dad can donate any change he saves by using coupons at the grocery store.
  • Look under the couch cushions – you never know what loose change you might find!
  • Make it a fun family project to support Girl Scouts.

Supporting the cookie program helps girls develop self-confidence, business skills, and teamwork. All registered Brownies, Juniors, and Girl Scouts ages 11-17 are eligible to participate in the annual sale, which generate revenue for both the troops and the local council. Troops use the money for pins and badges, program materials, and special activities. cookie revenue helps the council recruit, train, and support volunteers; offer program activities and summer camps at a very low cost;  maintain council properties; and offer financial aid in the form of scouterships to ensure that Girl Scouting is available to all girls, no matter their economic status.

Thanks to all of our cookie customers! Remember, the cookie program runs through March 16, 2008. If you want to purchase cookies, or if you would like to donate cookies to an organization as part of our Hometown Heroes project, please let us know.
