Take the Steps to Get Your Troop Registered for Girl Scouts Forever Green
May 25, 2010
In order to participate in the Girl Scouts Forever Green Patch program, the activities in the tool kit are to be completed during the months of January 2010 through June 1, 2010. Participating Girl Scout troops are required to fill out the "Step 1" form online so GSK can track activities that our troops are completing in order to earn the patch.
Before you start your Forever Green activities, you need to fill out the "Step 1" form on the GSUSA website http://www.girlscouts.org/forevergreen/. When Step 1 is complete, check out the "Step 2" form so you understand what items you will need to track to finish the registratio process when you have completed your activities. Troops will need to fill out the "Step 2" form at the same website upon completion of your patch requirements by May 21, 2010.
*These forms will need to be filled out by anyone 13 and older.

Girl Scouts to Host E-waste Recycling Day
Get rid of old electronics for FREE
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Girl Scouts have long been associated with green uniforms and sashes, but now they are going green in a whole new way!
Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is holding an E-waste Recycling Day. Visitors can recycle their electronic waste (ink cartridges, cell phones, radios, VCRs, office equipment, etc) and shred unwanted documents. Recycling and shredding services are free, except for a $5 charge for glass-front TVs and computer monitors. A full listing of acceptable items is available at www.kyanags.org.
The day will include more than just recycling used electronics. Youngsters can learn about “precycling,” plant herbs in take-home pots, make jewelry from soda can tabs, and create robots from recycled aluminum cans. City Arborist Mark White and naturalist Samantha Davis will be on site to answer questions about environmentally friendly planting. There will be gifts for early arrivals, including reusable shopping bags, environmentally sound water bottles and pens.
The entire community is invited to join us from 10 am to 4 pm, May 15, for E-waste Recycling Day at the Girl Scout Program and Learning Center at 2115 Lexington Road.

As part of the 100th Anniversary celebration for Girl Scouts of the USA, the organization is launching a nationwide community action project to put Girl Scouts at the forefront of environmental sustainability, leading schools and communities in using resources wisely.
Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana has been chosen as one of 36 pilot councils for the second round of implementation for this project. There are five main focus areas of the project: Air Quality, Waste Management, Water, Energy and Green Space. Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana has chosen Waste Management as their focus for this pilot year.
The "Girl Scouts Forever Green" project is designed to showcase the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and advance the Girl Scout brand with a single nationwide community project. Several tools are being developed to ensure measurable, significant impact and ensure progression and program growth from one year to the next.
The buzz about the "Girl Scouts Forever Green" initiative is growing throughout Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, and we are proud to have been chosen as a pilot council for this important program.

Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is excited to be a part of a nationwide signature Community Action Project which focuses on inspiring girls to take action to make their schools and/or communities more environmentally sound. We will create an easy to read and simple to apply tool kit so troops, groups and Juliettes can facilitate waste management projects in all service centers. The tool kit will be on line at www.kyanags.org and a few copies will be available at Service Centers. The project will empower girls to make a difference in the world by motivating others to reduce, reuse, recycle and compost. The concerted effort of the community action project will bring positive attention to our girls and council. Girl Scouts Forever Green!
