About Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana

Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana PatchGirl Scouts of Kentuckiana serves over 2,000 troops and groups in 64 counties in western Kentucky and southern Indiana. Each of the 25,000 Kentuckiana girl members participate in a program level:

  • Girl Scout Daisies, grades K-1
  • Girl Scout Brownies, grades 2-3
  • Girl Scout Juniors, grades 4-5
  • Girl Scout Cadettes, grades 6-8
  • Girl Scout Seniors, grades 9-10
  • Girl Scout Ambassadors, grades 11-12
  • Multi-aged groups/individual girl members

Supporting these girls are 7,000 adult members (women and men). Adults are involved as volunteer leaders, consultants, board members and as staff specialists who serve in such areas as program development, adult education, outdoor education, volunteer management and administration.

Financing

Financing for the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana program comes from income from united funds, product sales, the sale of Girl Scout merchandise, program fees, planned and deferred giving and Family and Community Partnership. These income sources support program development, camp properties, volunteer recruitment and training and other staff assistance. The cost of providing the Girl Scout program to each Kentuckiana member was over $270 per girl during the 2008-2009 troop year.

Kentuckiana Council Structure

Organized in 1923, Kentuckiana has grown through mergers to our current size-serving the needs of 30,700 members (girls and adult volunteers). Headquartered in Louisville, the council provides professional staff to oversee the entire area. Five service centers throughout the western half of Kentucky provide extensive staff services to local troops and groups.

The council is governed by a volunteer policy-making board of directors, led by President Cynthia Weller. Operations are managed by a paid CEO, Lora Tucker, with a staff of 75 full-time and part-time women and men.

Girl Scout Program Properties

Throughout the year, a variety of day, weekend and summer resident camp experiences afford girls the opportunity to learn about nature and wildlife, to contribute as a member of a group, and to become more self-reliant. Full- and part-time property staff maintain seven Girl Scout camp program properties:
